A long-lasting can opener

Six years ago I got fed up after a can opener broke — it was the standard type with a circular blade, plastic handles you squeeze, and a gear you turn. I think that can opener sparked my passion for researching well made things.

Perhaps you've experienced this before — not long after buying one of these can openers the blade gets blunt, the cogs skip teeth as you turn the gears, and you can't eat your beans.

Obviously it is tempting to spend $5 on a can opener instead of $30. But as with all cheaply made things you end up paying again to replace it. You also pay with frustration and hunger if you cannot get into the can.

After the great can opener reckoning of 2020, I found a good can opener — not only does it still work great. It also has other features that make it one of my favourite things.
