Organize your fridge to reduce the chance of poisoning everybody
Thanksgiving is just round the corner — and many of us are searching for shared experiences to bond with our loved ones.
So I thought I'd share with you one of my favourite holiday traditions — not getting food poisoning.
But one simple way to decrease the chance of poisoning your family is by organizing your fridge.
How to organize your fridge to reduce the chance of food poisoning
While researching how to avoid food poisoning I came across four common fridge organization tips from food safety organizations.1 2 3
- Keep raw meat, fish, and poultry, in sealed containers.
- Make sure raw meat, fish, and poultry are stored on the bottom shelf. This reduces the chance of cross contamination from dripping onto other foods.
- Make sure eggs are stored in a separate container (the carton they come in is fine)4 — some fridges have a special egg tray for this.
- Don't store eggs or meat in the door — the door isn't cold enough.
Once you've organised the fridge, you can make the change permanent by labelling the shelves with a sharpie, or by just being the sort of person who remembers things like that.Footnotes
